Snow
By Bart Raeke

The dreaded white blanket covers everything,
the field outside my apartment, my car, everything.
My shovel doesn’t seem to make a dent
the piles of snowfall are endless
And more is imminent.

Long ago, in the fading memories of youth,
snowflakes fell and piled
end on end,
This was cause for rejoice.
No need to shovel, no work to worry about
except throwing snowballs, making angels, and
building forts.

im running around with billy and jason
and mike and tommy
im all wet and cold but im not coming in yet mom
im having too much fun, and billy jason mike tommy and me
we are gonna make a fort, just a little while longer please?

getting the fort made and mike got mad
and went home
but was back in a few minutes when
we were done and threw snowballs at cars with us.

okay mom ill come in now (haha its getting dark anyway)
you made hot chocolate before i even came in and its good
and you wrap me in a blanket and sit me on the couch
where i can watch bugs bunny
and fall asleep

Even the memories don’t satisfy,
for it never will be like that again.
Work keeps calling, when will you be in?
The snow is a burden and I can find
no enjoyment from it
anymore.
