Today I learned how to use HTML and set up this homepage. I gotta run to AACC and hang lights now, but I'll update later.

Just got back from the light hang at AACC, then we went to Rocky Run for beer:thirty. It was fun. I got to see people I haven't seen in a while. We sat at one of Devon's tables and got to bug him. It was nice to be back at the college for a bit. Made me feel useful again. Don't have anything planned for tommorrow, Devon said he'd give me a call after he woke up. Might hang out with Amanda for a bit. The Orioles won opening day 6-5 against the Indians in the 13th inning. The game was suspended for a bit due to snow (!) and with the extra innings it ran about 4 and a half hours. Also, more good news, Derek Jeter dislocated his shoulder. It'd be a better story if the Yankees didn't end up wining. Oh well, guess you can't have it all.

Well, I just had to rebuild my homepage cuz I accidentally saved my blog index over the home index. That, and I can't get my stupid little mood pictures to upload. My mom dropped off an ad that she found in the paper for an electrician job at Sinai Hospital through the union, so I'm going to send in my resume and hope for the best. It would be a lot more steady than what I'm doing now. Cross your fingers for me.

Just found out that Leslie Cheung has leapt to his death in an apparent suicide in Hong Kong. He's considered by some to be the greatest Hong Kong actor ever. His most notable films to American audiences include A Better Tomorrow, A Chinese Ghost Story, The Bride With White Hair, and Farewell My Concubine. He will be missed.

I went through my stuff and found my poems so I could start putting them up, and I found some other things which I will be adding. Then I saved over my mainpage index (again) and had to redo that for the second time. On the plus side, it didn't take me as long. I've gotta go find another webcounter and put that in still. The homepage needed to be fixed a bit anyways, so I guess it's not that bad. In a little bit, I'll be playing tennis, and later tonight I'm gonna go see Pete Moses in his stand-up debut. Wish him the best.

Well, Pete never made it to his show last nite. Seems he got into an accident about 3 miles from the bar or so. Bad enough to need a tow truck, not bad enough to need an ambulance. That towing bill's gotta suck; it happened in Randallstown, Pete lives in Crofton. Being as how a) I was there alone and b) the opening acts for Ben weren't that great, I left near the end of the O's game (they ended up losing 4-2 to Cleveland despite a home run each from Tony Batista and Deivi Cruz) and went down to AACC, knowing full well that by the time I got there they would be cleaning up. Basically I just went to hang out. At least this time they served me at Friday's. Gonna go play tennis cuz it's beautiful out. Probably later I'll finish the poems.

Just found out that Edwin Starr died of a heart attack. He was best known for the once-again-appropriate song "War" and had a string of hits. The second celebrity in as many days. These things come in threes, or so they say, so I wonder who's next?

SATURDAY APRIL 5, 2003

1:22 pm
Well, I finally got a job. I start Monday working on a parking garage in downtown Baltimore. The job line said it was 4-6 weeks, but I'm hoping it will stretch. The owner of the company (Gill-Simpson, who I've worked for before) said that he hopes I'll work for them as long as I did last time (2 years or so, up until they laid me off a little while after 9/11, when the economy really started to go down the crapper), so hopefully the 4-6 weeks will be like a trial period or something. I'm just glad to get out of the house again. My friend Katy put a personals ad up for me on a site that you need to be a woman to get into called greatboyfriends.com. I was so greatly moved that someone cared for me that much that a tear came to my eye. She's determined to find me a good woman. :-) Also, the website is pretty much complete, barring a little tweaking and the blog updates, contributions, reviews (when I start writing them or they start coming in), and I still have to get the gallery up. But beyond that it's pretty much done. Probably going bowling tonite if anyone is interested, click on the "Comment" link below and shoot me an email.

Well, the main site is pretty much finished. I'll probably do a little more tweaking, probably add a table to the main page once I learn how, maybe play with frames a little. To whoever is reading this, tell me if you'd prefer to have a frame with the navigation bar on every page, and if I can figure out how to do it, I'll do it. Getting ready to go bowling in a bit.

I just got back from bowling duckpins. I suck at duckpin bowling, but we had fun. Especially the last game: we tried to bowl a 3 person game in 15 minutes, so we started Speed Bowling. Basically we just ran up, threw a ball, ran back, threw another ball, etc. as fast as we could. My score didn't change all that much, so it didn't really do anything to my game. Also I wanted to mention that we're trying to get people to play softball on Saturday, May 3, if anyone's interested, no matter what skill level you are, please contact me in any way possible. We're gonna try to make it a weekly thing, so if we can get enough people interested that we'll have reserves if someone can't make a week, that'll be good. Anyway, if you're interested, drop me a line. I'm gonna go to bed now.

Made a couple of changes to the site, reduced the size of the pictures in the gallery and added thumbnail links, also added a new section, Matt's WTF Link O' The Day (More Or Less). Work was good except for the cold and the rain. I was thinking the other day, and I realized that the last time I went four months without working at least one day a week was about 1986. Reagan was still president. Think about that for a second. On an unrelated note, today is Jackie Chan's 49th birthday.

Yesterday pretty much sucked. I was tired all day, and screwed up the first half-days work, so I had to go back and fix it. Then, when I got home, my computer started acting all wonky, and it was out for a good couple of hours. Today went much better, although I still didn't get to bed last night until about 12:30. I gotta get used to going to bed early-ish again. Finished up the Line Game section after work. If I have time, I'll put a table on the main page to clear up what has become lots of clutter.

10:55 pm
Just got done watching Spider-Man again becuase there's nothing on TV on Wednesdays anymore now that they moved Ed to Friday nights and the baseball game wasn't televised (perhaps for the best ... they lost to Tampa Bay 10 to 7 ...), and some things occurred to me: a) why does Spider-Man's spider sense work sometimes and not work at other times? There's a couple of times where he gets clocked pretty good, and sometimes you can't hit him at all. b) What happens to the radioactive ... sorry ... I mean genetically altered spider that bites Peter Parker? Am I the only person who finds it unlikely that it didn't bite anyone else? Or at least another animal? (You know you wanna see Spider-Dog ...) Peter wasn't even threatening the spider when it bit him, it just came down from the ceiling, landed on his hand, hung out for a bit, then decided to bite him. c) Why does Peter shoot webs? Shouldn't he just shoot a strand of silk? I mean, spiders have to spin webs. His come out preformed. Another thing that bothers me ... they set up the whole thing with Harry Osbourne so that he can take his father's place as the Green Goblin, but the next movie features Doc Ock as the super-villian, and rumor has it that the third will probably feature Venom and/or Carnage. Which means that we won't see Harry as a bad guy until at least the fourth movie. And by that point, Sam Raimi will have moved on, as will have the principals, and someone like Joel Schumacher will come in, and Spidey will be fighting second-tier villians like the Rhino, or Hydro Man, or the Sandman, or the Vulture.

5:43 pm
Well, my first week back to work is over. Things seem to be going well. There's a big (2 years) job coming up in the summer at the aquarium that this company has, so hopefully I'll stay on for a while and keep working. I still have to get used to going to bed early. I almost made it last nite, but Amanda returned the message I left on her voicemail at like 11:30 last nite. Turns out she got roped into not only working on the show, but also appearing in it ... Barb is making her be one of the moving men. She's had a really stressful week. She hasn't been getting much sleep this week either. Maybe that's one of the reasons I haven't been sleeping? The whole emapthy thing? Tonight Chrissie and I are seeing The Vast Difference in Fells Point. Mike Nichols has the lead. It's his first. Wish him well.

12:21 am

It's been a fun weekend. Mike Nichol's play, The Vast Difference, was really funny, and, at moments, touching. Afterwards, he, Chrissie and I had a few drinks in Fells Point, and shot the shit. Saturday, John and I saw Rob Zombie's House of 1000 Corpses, which we both enjoyed immensely, then we played a bit of tennis, then I ran down to the theater to help out with the show, but by the time I got there, everyone was done. So Amanda and I ate dinner at Rocky Run, then I bought Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on DVD. Spent the evening putting up the reviews section, and when John got home, we watched the DVD. Sunday, we finally got out to the Pasadena Flea Market, then we played a little catch to break in our new gloves, and remember how to throw a baseball. Then I headed down to the theater to work on the show, and later in the evening Kevin and I saw the Stella show at the Ottobar. It was easily one of the ten best shows I've ever seen, and the 3 or 4 people who read this know that I've seen quite a bit of shows in my lifetime. It was just like watching The State live, but they didn't do any State skits. It was funny even though Michael Ian Black kept trying to say Bawlmer and it came out "Baltmore", and even though they made fun of Bruce Willis and Wierd Al Yankovic. You all know how big a fan I am of those two, and the show was still one of the top ten of all time. Truly a great weekend. And I got to hang out with Karla for a bit to boot.

One of the hispanic guys that works for the concrete company at the parking garage I'm working on fell 30 feet today, breaking his arm in the process. I'd be more sympathetic towards him if he had bothered to actually use the harness he was wearing to tie off to the tie line stretched across the alleyway where he was working. It's the second accident I've seen there so far, both involving said concrete company, in the two weeks I've been there. The company hires hispanic workers because they'll work cheap, and that way when they charge the general contractor $50/hour per worker, they can pocket about $40 of it. They rush through whatever they're doing with no regards to safety regulations, and if one of them should get hurt, there's literally thousands more in the area who can jump in and take their place. It's things like this that make me happy that I work for union contractors.

I've been in a crappy mood all day, and I have no idea why. So either someone else has been in a bad mood all day, and I'm picking it up, or it's a chemical thing. So, anyone out there been in a bad mood? Or do I need to see a therapist? Or both?

Some thoughts: Am I the only person who takes (mild) offense when they recieve email spam that isn't even directed at me? I'm talking about getting ads for products to increase my bustline, or to send for scholarships to American universities so that I can get into the United States? Also, am I the only one confused as to why WHFS picks bands to play the HFS-Tival that they don't normally play (other than in the two months before the festival as a way of promoting the festival)? I mean, granted, I haven't really listened to HFS that often in about a year or more, but do they really play bands like The Roots that often to warrant them being at the festival? The last time I checked, HFS only plays music by white rap artists (Eminem, Beastie Boys, Beck, the various rock-rap bands). I mean, Wyclef Jean was at an HFS-Tival a couple of years back. When's the last time (if ever) you've heard Wyclef being played on HFS? And, to be honest, how many of you who've listened to HFS "back in the day" would've ever thought that they'd be promoting Ozzfest? I mean, they still call themselves an alternative station. My question is what are they alternative to?

i know i hate getting spam about increasing my penis size or finding a foreign wife, should i forward those to you?

katie

Heh yeah, sure, what the hell ... I dunno, it just makes me mad, cause I could understand if I got some spam that was maybe a product that I might possibly use, not that I ever would, but still ... it's like I guess I expect them to work like regular junk mail (of the snail variety), where I just end up throwing it out, but if the mood should strike me, then I might order the product/service/sex accessory because they've done the minimal amount of market research and know that I'm male and live in America.
